Vote For Eddie Sanders

Local Solutions, Not Party Politics

My Bio

Eddie Sanders was born and raised in West Tennessee (Paris, Tennessee). He has been married to Valeria Annette McGowen from Lynchburg, Tennessee for 29 years. Eddie graduated from Henry County High School and Freed-Hardeman University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education. He received his Master of Science Degree in General Psychology from the University of Phoenix. Eddie has lived and worked in the community since 2019. Presently, He is employed with the City of Murfreesboro in the Parks and Recreation Department as the Facility Supervisor at Patterson Park Community Center. He is committed to his faith, his family and the freedoms we all enjoy as citizens of the state of Tennessee and Rutherford County. Eddie shares – “I am running for Rutherford County Commissioner, District 18 because the time has come for me to step forward and make a proactive, positive difference in my community. My focus is serving people over party. I will be running as an Independent Candidate. My name will be on the ballot for the General Election on August 6, 2026.” Eddie believes the time has come for politicians to put aside political partisanship and focus on the needs of the people who elected them to their position. Too many elected officials are concerned with power, position, prestige, pleasure and popularity. Eddie is concerned about the people. Everywhere Eddie has resided, he has served the community. In Louisville, Kentucky, he served as a Louisville Metro Police Chaplain and served on the Waste Management Advisory Board. In Charlotte, North Carolina, he served as a member on the Domestic Violence Advisory Board and later served as the Vice–Chairman. Presently, Eddie is actively involved in community activities which include: Chaplain for the MTSU Lady Raiders Basketball Team; Murfreesboro New Year’s Day 5K Event Volunteer; Miracle League Buddy Event; and Volunteer for the Area 16 Special Olympics Track & Field Meet; recent graduate of the Murfreesboro Citizens Academy, among other community activities. Eddie is a Minister, husband, published author, Chaplain, community volunteer, and former high school teacher and basketball coach. He has also served as an Adjunct College Instructor and as the Director of Operations for the MTSU Lady Raiders Basketball Team. Eddie’s greatest attribute is serving people. “Politics is not about the position you occupy; it is about the people you serve. Let’s work together to continue to build a strong, effective county government that works for everyone. I would be humbled and honored to serve as your Rutherford County Commissioner for District 18.” Please feel free to contact Eddie directly, contribute to his campaign, volunteer, register to vote, request a yard sign, and more. He looks forward to meeting, listening and talking with each of you on the campaign trail.

My Key Issues

Public safety

Public Safety — Recruit, Equip, Protect 🚓 Problem: Rutherford County needs enough well-trained first responders and law enforcement to keep every neighborhood safe. Commitment: I will prioritize competitive pay, career development, and modern equipment so our first responders can respond faster and work safer.

Education

Education — Support Great Teachers, Improve Outcomes 🎒 Problem: Students succeed when classrooms are led by supported, well-paid teachers with modern tools. Commitment: I will back competitive teacher compensation, targeted professional development, and classroom technology investments so every school can deliver excellence.

Economic Development

Growth & Infrastructure — Smart Planning for Responsible Growth 🛣️ Problem: Rapid growth strains roads, bridges, and public services unless we plan ahead. Commitment: I will pursue proactive infrastructure investment, data-driven land use decisions, and regular maintenance to keep traffic flowing and connect residents to jobs and schools.
